NSW: Rock thrower accused pleads guilty to manslaughter
SYDNEY, April 12 - A man charged over the death of a truck driver killed when a rock
thrown from a highway overpass crashed through his windscreen, pleaded guilty to manslaughter
today.
Sean McGoldrick, 22, was the last of four males, including two teenagers, who pleaded
guilty to the charge following the death of driver Mark Evans at Menangle in Sydney's
west on August 22, 1998.
Mr Evans, 29, was killed almost instantly when the rock, weighing about five kg, struck
him in the chest after being dropped from an overpass as he drove along the M5 freeway.
Sean Robert Sutcliffe, 27, a 19-year-old man and 17-year-old boy have also pleaded
guilty to manslaughter over Mr Evans' death.
Last year the 17-year-old was sentenced to a three-year good behaviour bond.
McGoldrick, Sutcliffe and the 19-year-old will face a sentencing hearing on April 26 and 27.
