Qld: Fiery exchange in parliament over ethics
By Roberta Mancuso
BRISBANE, Feb 26 AAP - Queensland opposition MPs were labelled "crooks" and comedians
while lewd suggestions were made about Premier Anna Bligh during a fiery debate about
standards in state parliament today.
Ministers launched a scathing attack on National and Liberal MPs, after the coalition
attempted to grill the government about ethics following the Pat Purcell affair.

he would resign after admitting to slapping two senior …

A fragmented cause loses its mystic oracle
Byline: ERIC SCHMITT
Type: News
Administration officials in the United States say Al Qaeda remains a threat after the death of Osama Bin Laden, but that the fragmented group lacks a critical ideological cohesion without him.
The death of Osama bin Laden robs Al Qaeda of its founder and spiritual leader at a time when the terrorist organization is struggling to show its relevance to the democratic protesters in the Middle East and North Africa.
Experts said Bin Laden had been a largely symbolic figure in recent years who had little, if any, direct role in spreading terrorism worldwide. While his death is significant, these officials said, it will not end the threat from an increasingly potent and self-reliant string of regional Qaeda affiliates in North Africa and Yemen or from a self-radicalized vanguard in the United States.
"Clearly, this doesn't end the threat from Al Qaeda and its affiliates," said Juan Zarate, a top counterterrorism official under President George W. Bush. "But it deprives Al Qaeda of its core leader and the ideological cohesion that Bin Laden maintains."
Obama administration officials predicted that without Bin Laden's spiritual guidance -- and his almost mystical ability to inspire followers by standing up to and evading U.S. and allied efforts to hunt him down -- Qaeda leaders' efforts to obtain nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, and to use them against the United States, will weaken.
"Bin Laden was Al Qaeda's only commander in its 22-year history and was largely responsible for the organization's mystique, its attraction among violent jihadists and its focus on America as a terrorist target," a senior administration official told reporters early Monday.
Some U.S. counterterrorism officials have held that Bin Laden's longtime Egyptian deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri, was more instrumental in the tactical planning of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, than Bin Laden himself. But the senior Obama administration official said Mr. Zawahri "is far less charismatic and not as well respected within the organization."
Mr. Zawahri will most likely have difficulty maintaining the loyalty of Bin Laden's followers, the official said.
Indeed, the Al Qaeda of today is a much different organization than the one Bin Laden presided over a decade ago. It is much less hierarchical and more diffuse. And Al Qaeda's main headquarters in Pakistan has come under withering attack from the C.I.A.'s armed drones.
Meantime, regional affiliates have blossomed in North Africa, Iraq, East Africa and Yemen. All have been personally blessed by Bin Laden, but each has developed its own strategy.
That was Bin Laden's vision from the start. His plan was to spin off terrorist subsidiaries that could request ideological guidance or material support from time to time but were meant to be largely self-sustaining.
Years before Bin Laden's death -- he has been heard from only rarely in recent years, in often-scratchy audio recordings -- the mantle for the Qaeda brand was taken up increasingly by Mr. Zawahri and, more significantly, by Anwar al-Awlaki, a leader of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, as the Yemen branch is known.
Mr. Awlaki uses idiomatic American English in his online speeches to extremists and potential recruits in the West. His followers and other radicals can learn all they need about building a crude bomb through instructions on the Internet.
U.S. and European law enforcement officials say they worry most about Mr. Awlaki's kind of "lone wolf" threat, which is much harder to detect than, say, the team that planned for years to attack the World Trade Center's twin towers and the Pentagon.
It is an inauspicious time for Al Qaeda, as it seeks to exploit the fervor that has been unleashed in the democratic protests in the Middle East and North Africa. The demonstrators, however, have largely ignored Al Qaeda's call to use violence.
"Al Qaeda has been struggling on the sidelines of the Arab revolution, its popularity in Arab and Muslim countries has been declining, and there are internal divisions about the direction of the movement," Mr. Zarate said.

TAS:Take tax fight to MPs, Abbott tells Libs
Opposition Leader TONY ABBOTT has told a gathering of the Liberal Party faithful in
Hobart to take up the carbon tax fight with local government MPs.
Mr ABBOTT addressed the Tasmanian Liberals state conference today telling the crowd
to vent their rage to local Labor MPs and independent ANDREW WILKIE.
The Liberals hold none of the five federal seats in the state.
He also said there are parallels to draw between the Tasmanian and federal governments.
Mr ABBOTT says the Labor-Green disease has gone from Hobart to Canberra, and we now
see the same negativity towards economic growth.

Fed: Holbrook VC goes on display at war memorial
By Max Blenkin
CANBERRA, Dec 11 AAP - Amid a wave of anti-German sentiment at the start of World War
I, the southern NSW town of Germanton was looking for a new and patriotic name.
After much debate the name of Holbrook was chosen, in honour of Royal Navy Lieutenant
Norman Holbrook whose dashing exploits in penetrating the Dardanelles and sinking a Turkish
battleship made him the first submariner awarded the Victoria Cross.
That launched a long association between the Holbrook family and Holbrook, NSW, now
known as "the submarine town".
In a nation of eye-catching tourist attractions, Holbrook stands unique as it has its
own submarine, the former Royal Australian Navy Oberon boat HMAS Otway, high and dry in
a park beside the Hume Highway.
In a further page in this long story, Lieutenant Holbrook's VC and other medals went
on public display in the Australian War Memorial on Friday.
The medals were donated to the Holbrook community in 1982 by Lieutenant Holbrook's
widow Gundula, 94, a resident of Austria but who had visited the town on a number of occasions
during the last half century.
So why would a town part with such a valuable piece of its heritage?
Greater Hume Shire Mayor Denise Osborne said the medals had to be kept in a bank vault
because of their value.
"We had replicas, which have been on display in the submarine museum, all of that time
since," she said.
"But to have the real thing not on display and not telling, not only the town and visitors
but the rest of the community, seemed to be something we were lacking."
So an offer was made to the Australian War Memorial.
Memorial director Steve Gower said Lieutenant Holbrook's feat in penetrating the Dardanelles
and returning safely inspired the Australian submarine AE2 to make a similar attempt at
the same time as the landings at Gallipoli on April 25, 1915.
"There was some thought on the night of the 25th when the landing wasn't really going
well that there might be an evacuation," he said.
"The news was received by (British commander) General Ian Hamilton that AE2 had got
through the Dardanelles, therefore the Australians and New Zealanders and Brits would
stay there."
The acquisition of this VC takes the memorial's collection to 61 - 58 Australian and
three British.
Memorial curator Nick Fletcher said no Australian sailor had ever won the VC.
"Our nearest would probably be Norman Holbrook who visited Australia frequently and
of course since Holbrook was named after him, there is a strong Australian link to his
actions," he said.

NSW: Man pulls teenager off bike in brazen daylight attack
SYDNEY, Aug 3 AAP - A man has pulled a teenage girl off her bike as she was cycling
with her sister in a brazen daylight attack on the NSW central coast.
The 13-year-old girl and her teenage sister were riding along Elizabeth Bay Drive at
Lake Munmorah when the attack occurred about 3.20pm (AEST) on Sunday.
"A male has grabbed her, pulling her from her bike," NSW police said in a statement.
"The girl has struggled free and the man was seen to run into the bushes where a second
male was heard, but not seen."
The two girls ran to a nearby road and flagged down a passing car.
Police said a car was seen speeding away from the area.
It is described as a late model white sedan with yellow and black NSW plates.
One of the girls also saw a blue sedan which drove past and did not stop.
"Police would like to speak with the driver of this vehicle as they might be able to
assist with their inquiries," police said.
The man is described as being white/European in appearance, medium build, 170-175cm
tall, tanned complexion with short brown messy hair.
He was wearing a light blue t-shirt and beige long shorts.
Police have appealed for anyone who saw a man or men acting suspiciously near Elizabeth
Bay Drive about 3pm (AEST) on Sunday to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

shots were fired.
In another incident, police are appealing for witnesses after a stabbing in the Sydney CBD.
At about 2:50am on Sunday police were patrolling George Street, near the intersection
of Bridge Street, when they noticed an altercation between three men in the middle of
the road.
When police stopped to make inquiries they found a man, believed to be in his early
twenties, suffering a stab wound to the back of his neck.
He was taken to St Vincents Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

A ROUND-UP OF ISSUES AFFECTING YOUR HEALTH
COMMON PARASITE ALTERS SEX BEHAVIOUR
Around eight million Australians are infected with a common parasite that makes women
more attractive and men more stupid, new research has revealed.
The Toxoplasma gondii parasite is common to 40 per cent of the world's population and
has long been thought to have no affect on healthy people.
But new research by the Sydney University of Technology found that the parasite affected
men and women in different ways.
Infected men were more anti-social, less educated, had lower IQs and were deemed less
attractive to women.
Infected women, on the other hand, were more friendly, outgoing, promiscuous and attractive
to men than non-infected women.
However, there are serious side-effects to the parasite which can be dangerous to pregnant
women and to people with weakened immune systems.
ALGAE ACID POSSIBLE DEPRESSION REMEDY
An acid extracted from algae is being hailed by a New Zealand company for its beneficial
effect on anything from heart disease to dyslexia and depression.
Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) is one of two omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids normally
found in fish and is also linked to lightening symptoms of depression.
New Zealand company Photonz says it is leading the charge in producing the acid, by
using new technology to extract it.
It has already filed three patents on its method of extraction and says it plans to
genetically engineer EPA in Australia, Europe and America.
RESEARCHERS SIZE UP CHILDRENS SHOES
A research project will investigate the impact of shoes have on a child's growth.
The study, undertaken by the University of Sydney's Faculty of Health Science, is part
of The Children Walking Well Project, funded by the Australian Research Council.
The project will explore the effect of footwear on a child's foot mechanics and factors
influencing footwear purchases.
Project leader Damien O'Meara said there was confusion about children's footwear because
shoe companies used marketing terms, such as "arch support" or "motion control", carelessly.
Sydney-based primary school children in grade one to six are being sought for the study.
TEENS TARGETED IN ANTI-SMOKING CAMPAIGN
The federal government has singled out teenagers in its latest anti-smoking campaign,
putting $25 million into advertising to warn youngsters off the habit.
Around 45,000 Australian teenagers will start smoking in 2007 and about half of them
will die from smoking-related diseases, parliamentary secretary for health Christopher
Pyne said.
The most recent figures from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare are positive,
with the rate for those aged over 14 who smoke daily falling 1.1 per cent.
But Mr Pyne warned against complacency, with smoking killing more than 19,000 Australians
each year.
INFLUENZA MARKET OPENS TRADING
If this American futures market is booming, you can hold the celebrations because it
probably means you're going to get sick.
Influenza experts came up with a novel way of predicting outbreaks by creating a futures
market for influenza activity, borrowing the idea from economists.
Health care workers buy shares if they see an increased number of flu cases and sell
if there is a decreased number, making high share prices a key indicator of an upcoming
outbreak.
A preliminary test in Iowa proved highly successful, with outbreak activity levels
accurately predicted at the end of the week 71 per cent of the time.
The influenza prediction market will be presented in the January 15 issue of Clinical
Infectious Diseases.

Students Surfing Net for Textbook Deals
AP Online
04-07-2005
University of Nevada at Las Vegas graduate student Lindsay Hendricks treks to the campus bookstore each semester armed with her course list, but if she doesn't find what she wants, her next stop is the Internet.
With textbook prices rising _ more than 60 percent over the past decade, one report found _ students are increasingly turning to the Internet to look for deals.
Hendricks, 26, said she found "How to Think Straight About Psychology," which normally sells for $40, for just $5 on Amazon.com.
"In graduate college we're all about cheap books," she said.
According to a 2004 study by the California Student Public Interest Research Group, 14 percent of students bought or sold books online or at a book swap, but 86 percent considered it.
In 2003, a survey by the trade group National Association of College Stores in Oberlin, Ohio, found that about 14 percent of college students buy textbooks online, up from just 6 percent in 1999.
Al Greco, a Fordham University marketing professor who follows trends in the college textbook industry, said Internet textbook sales are growing because students have figured out they can save as much as half the book's cost that way.
"It's the wave of the future," he said.
Traditional booksellers shrug off the competition.
"It's something we have to deal with because it's there," said Frank Condello, marketing director for Nebraska Book Co., which operates 112 college bookstores. "As to whether or not it's going to drive us out of business, no way."
Jennifer Libertowski, spokeswoman for the National Association of College Stores, said the best way for campus bookstores to compete with increasing Internet sales will be to offer a large number of affordable used books.
And no wonder. According to the California Public Interest Research Group, the average student will spend nearly $900 each year on textbooks, with prices increasing at more than four times the rate of inflation.
Wholesale prices charged by textbook publishers have jumped 62 percent since 1994, while the price charged for general books went up just 19 percent, the report found.
Kui Xie, a 28-year-old graduate student at the University of Oklahoma, said he spends between $200 and $300 per semester on books for three courses. He buys about half of his textbooks online in any given semester.
"The main reason is it's cheaper," he said. "I'd rather buy books from the bookstore if the prices are close."

AD WATCH: La Senza's Cup Size Choir still hits just the right notes.
The first item for review, and my Campaign of the Month, is a cheeky little (or big) number for La Senza. The Cup Size Choir starts off with an overly long and slightly boring video showing girls with varying sized boobs slowly moving and looking a bit sexy (but not so much that we alienate female viewers). They then begin to sing different notes, building into a rendition of 'Deck the Halls'. The more interesting part of the campaign is revealed after this, when you can click or use your keyboard to 'play' each of the girls to create your own tune, which can then be recorded and sent to your friends.
Released as a Christmas campaign, this has the coolness factor for both sexes, but is obviously aimed at boys buying lingerie as a present. Building the importance of purchasing the correct size into the very core of the mechanic, along with lots of sharing options and links to purchase, means this simple but effective campaign hits just the right note.
For the next campaign, we're still in the lingerie section (I was given these as a choice, honest) but this time with a campaign that's at the opposite end of the scale to my winner. The Shake Me Strip Me Agent Provocateur iPhone App has such a ridiculously long title that the text underneath the icon on my iPhone reads 'uk.co... ripMe'. However, it does sound intriguing, and possibly a bit NSFW.
Nothing could be further from the truth. This is as bad as iPhone apps can get. You shake your phone to reveal an upside-down picture of a bored-looking model in a black dress. Turn the phone over and the dress slides off, revealing her underwear.
I pressed 'Touch Me' at the bottom of the screen hoping things would get more interesting - perhaps the girl would react (it's been done before but, hey, it works), maybe I could at least browse different products and models, send to a friend, swap her face for mine. Instead, it just took me to the Agent Provocateur website. A glorified weblink then.
Moving away from the ladies now and to one of the latest campaigns for Microsoft's Bing search engine: The Art of Technology with Brian Badonde, which features the comedy character from Channel 4's Facejacker series in specially created content. I've not seen this character before but his excessive use of the letter B seems to be the reason for his tie-in with this promotion.
It's not bad, starting off as a more general comedy journey through the history of the internet, but it becomes less interesting once the more blatant promotional elements come through. I would have gone for punchier, shorter clips - most here are over five minutes long. If a video is too long, I'm not that inclined to send it to a friend, and I'm not sure the character has a strong enough fanbase to encourage that to happen. It's well made and pretty entertaining, though, but I'm still not going to say, "I'll bing it."
The My Red Carpet Facebook app for E! Entertainment is another personalised video. You or a friend can be the latest star to walk down an awards ceremony red carpet. While obviously cobbled together from footage of actual celebrities and some specially filmed segments, the viewer's Facebook photo is used on newspapers, billboards and screaming fans' T-shirts. However, I could only choose my profile picture, not other shots, which is a shame.
More motivation to send to a friend would have been great - perhaps choosing what the newspaper headline was. And I would have liked to have heard my name being screamed by the fans.

The approach was to create an interactive device that allowed users to be as creative as their skills allowed and record a tune to send to friends, or just have fun. A simple competition mechanic and the ability to share on Facebook and Twitter were included.
The video was hosted on YouTube and tagged specifically for users searching for similar content or videos with a Christmas theme, to improve general searchability.
The main technical challenge was to shoot each girl in a way that captured subtle movements to give the impression of live video.
Creating a mobile version of the site was also a challenge because the keyboard was built in Flash. We created an HTML and a JavaScript version, optimised for mobile devices, which replicated site functionality while maintaining the fun aspect of the interactive keyboard.

We wanted to bring some festive cheer, and what better way than the Cup Size Choir? The activity was aimed at men to help them with their Christmas shopping, but we hope women found it fun and engaging too. We're extremely pleased with the success of the campaign. The website has had over 4m page views ,with 2.3m unique visitors from 220 countries.

Extensible CAD Technologies Debuts New Automated Inspection Tools.
Extensible CAD Technologies has announced two new products in its InspectionXpert automated inspection software family: InspectionXpert for PDF and InspectionXpert OnDemand.
Extensible Cad Technologies reported that both products are completely redesigned versions of the company's flagship automated inspection software, and offer users a variety of new features and a sleek new interface for easier navigation and better workflow. InspectionXpert software saves companies significant time and money by automating the error-prone manual process of ballooning 2D drawings and creating quality inspection forms.
The new products offer the same functionality with two different delivery methods. InspectionXpert for PDF provides a new streamlined installation process that greatly reduces the need for IT support. The Company said that its license-based installation process provides users with always-on access, ideal for quality departments with limited or no access to the Internet.
InspectionXpert OnDemand's access requires absolutely no installation, completely eliminating the need for IT support. Extensible CAD Technologies noted that users simply click on a web link to instantly launch the software and always have access to the latest version each time they log on.
InspectionXpert for PDF and InspectionXpert OnDemand do not require CAD software so companies that don't use CAD to create or modify inspection drawings can still use these products to automate their quality inspection drawings. The Company reported that the new release works with PDF/TIFF files created from any source, including scanned drawings.
"We are excited about these new products because of the improvement in the user experience," says Jeff Cope, president of Extensible CAD Technologies. "Everything from access and deployment to workflow and customization is greatly improved. In addition, the software's new Publish to Net Inspect feature will provide an end-to-end solution for companies who use Net-Inspect quality management software."
Extensible CAD Technologies noted other significant new enhancements include:
Increased accuracy. User can now choose between an option for searchable text recognition or the optical character recognition (OCR) that is already available, greatly improving the overall quality and accuracy of extracted data.
Easier navigation. Tightly integrated navigation tools enable users to click on a balloon in their drawing to view and edit the data for that item. Clicking on a row in their characteristic table now highlights the balloon on their drawing.
Better quality. Image capture quality has been greatly improved, even at low zoom factor levels, which provides improved OCR accuracy.
Redesigned interface. The software's new ribbon user interface makes performing common tasks faster and easier.
Multiple-drawing support. Users can now work with multiple drawings in a single project, in addition to multi-page drawings already supported.
File Management: Simplified file management ensures that all of the inspection project data is stored in a single project file.
Project migration. Project files created with the company's InspectionXpert First Article can be migrated to InspectionXpert for PDF or InspectionXpert OnDemand.
Extensible CAD Technologies focuses on the needs of CAD and PLM users.

Blue Angel Technologies Announces Software Tool For Automatic Creation Of Web Browse Tress.
VALLEY FORGE, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 1998--
Automates the Tedious Process of Manually Creating
Web Browse Trees
Blue Angel Technologies Inc. announced Tuesday the availability of a software tool which automates the process of creating HTML browse trees on the Web.
A browse tree is a web of hypertext links that assists a user in finding information by leading them from a higher level concept page through increasingly finer levels of information.
For example, a browse tree displaying an organization's structure might start with the headquarters location at the top of the tree and have increasingly smaller locations, divisions, departments, groups and units moving down the branches until one reaches a desired organizational unit or individual.
Typically, the creation of a browse tree is a labor intensive manual effort that requires a webmaster or programmer to create individual Web pages containing hypertext links referencing each other and then sewing them all together in a cohesive way. Maintaining browse trees tends to be costly because the tree's Web pages must be continually updated, linked together and tested as information changes.
The MetaStar Browse Tree tool was developed to provide users with a more cost effective way for managing information on the Web", said Jim Restivo, Blue Angel's president. "When you consider that many sites have browse trees of hundreds or even thousands of pages, the cost of manually creating and maintaining those sites can be a significant burden", continued Restivo.
"The uses for the browse tree tool are limited only by the user's imagination. For example, it could be used to lead a customer through a company's product suite (sales orientation), customer service help desk (support orientation), or employment opportunities (human relations orientation).
The best part is that the navigational structure is generated automatically by the tool so that organizations can get their information disseminated quickly, easily and inexpensively", continued Restivo.
Availability
The MetaStar Browse Tree tool is available immediately. A demonstration of the tool's capabilities is available on Blue Angel's Web site at http://www.bluangel.com.

The new air freight solutions will employ sophisticated forecasting and optimization routines to promote better pricing, sales, product mix and space control decisions, thus lowering costs, increasing revenue and improving overall profits.
The announcement represents a breakthrough in addressing the strategic issues of freight yield management, such as long-term approaches to pricing, marketing and sales management, as well as tactical considerations.
The solution will support revenue management decisions at two levels: short-term, addressing immediate requirements such as determining capacity allocation and freight mix; and long-term, supporting activities such as the evaluation of contracts based on potential profitability and the sale of value-added services.
The solution will interface with existing air freight systems from Unisys and other vendors to integrate capacity, rating, sales, marketing and other information.
Under the alliance, Unisys will provide the freight systems expertise and the resources of its worldwide systems integration practice, as well as worldwide marketing, sales and support. "Yield management enables us to effectively coordinate sales and marketing cargo selection decisions with cargo routing and asset allocation decisions in order to ensure that we are making optimal use of our assets system-wide."
"This alliance leverages the complementary strengths of our two companies: Unisys leadership position in the air freight industry and DFI's expertise in freight revenue management," said Robert L. Phillips, senior vice president, Decision Focus Inc. "For air freight carriers, the combination of strengths promises access to the best revenue management system available today."
"Decision Focus and Unisys are moving freight revenue management to a new level of sophistication -- offering competitive insights that are relevant from both tactical and strategic points of view," said Gail Blauer Jones, vice president of Freight Management, Unisys Transportation Line of Business.
"Not only does our solution take air freight revenue management beyond its current focus on tactical issues, but it is based on expertise gained at leading worldwide land- and sea-based freight carriers. Local band promises all Police, all the time at tavern in Littleton.(News)(Column)
Byline: Penny Parker, Rocky Mountain News
You don't have to turn on the red light to hear The Police before the band's reunion tour arrives June 9 at the Pepsi Center.
Instead, hop on down Friday to The Toad Tavern in Littleton to catch Message In a Bottle, a Denver-based Police tribute band that sounds like the real deal.
Band founders and childhood friends Corey Stopperan (drums and vocals) and Peter Henriksen (bass) formed the band in 2002 as Murder by Numbers, playing to college crowds in Greeley and Fort Collins. After a year's hiatus and several personnel changes, Stopperan and Henriksen resurrected the band as an all-Police, all-the-time group with guitarist Mike Forberg and, more recently, lead vocalist Alton King.
King, a mid-40s pharmacy intern at the CU Health Sciences Center, answered an Internet ad looking for a Sting- esque singer. "My voice lends itself to sound like Sting's," he said. "I have his range."
Or at least his old range. Did you notice how Sting skirted the high notes during Roxanne, which The Police played Sunday night to open the Grammys?
King hadn't heard that The Police had a Pepsi Center stop but vowed to see the singer he sounds like but has never seen live. "I'll have to save for my ticket, because I'm on a starving student budget."
Check out Message in a Bottle at policerockreggae.com.
BIG TICKET: While we're cooling our heels (and wallets) awaiting an on-sale date and final ticket price for The Police here, the price for a chance to see the band in The Big Apple is soaring - or at least the asking price is.
A seller on ticket stubhub.com is asking $14,112 for a ticket to the Aug. 1 Madison Square Garden show.
Pepsi Center peeps should expect to pay $225, $90 and $50 for tickets.
AMOR: Alejandra Garza, former Colorado Springs TV reporter and communications director for Denver Public Schools, and Juan Marcos Gutierrez, former general consul of Mexico in Denver, tied the knot Feb. 3 at the Phipps Mansion. Roughly 130 guests - including Mayor John Hickenlooper, DPS honcho -Michael Bennet and KBNO mogul Zee Ferrufino - witnessed the marital merger.
"The joke that several of our good friends told us is that usually when a Mexican citizen comes to the U.S. and marries, that person usually stays here," Garza said. "Instead, he's taking me back to Mexico."
Gutierrez has been appointed to a high-ranking position with the Ministry of Public Administration in Mexico City, where he'll direct the anti-corruption efforts in the Mexican government. Garza will volunteer for an animal welfare campaign to educate people about pet overpopulation.
THE SEEN: Delicious Dynasty diva Joan Collins dining late at Prime 121 in Cherry Creek North on Saturday night. Madame Collins also was spotted dining Monday night at Ocean with local bigwigs Arlene and Barry Hirschfeld and Steve Farber.

Isn't this what teachers in Wales have been waiting for?(Features)
With the advent of the interactive whiteboard and more IT equipment available in schools, surely now is the time to harness the use of the internet to support the sharing of our teaching resources. The National Grid for Learning Cymru (NGfL Cymru) provides teachers in Wales with free access to a wealth of high-quality, colourful and interactive resources.
One of its key priorities is to develop resources that reflect the 'cwri- cwlwm Cymreig' and also to provide materials for those schools that teach through the medium of Welsh.
A particularly innovative example is a set of resources to support a new textbook for geography at key stage 4.
One of the resources looks at traffic congestion in Cardiff and through mind-mapping activities seeks to identify the causes, problems and solutions.
Developed in a Welsh context and available in both languages, the resources provide an exciting way of engaging with the pupils through the creative use of animation, interactivity and questioning.
There are more than 1,600 unique, downloadable and adaptable resources supporting all key stages.
Martin Williams, head of history at St Cenydd Comprehensive, Caerphilly, said, 'This is some- thing that teachers should be immensely excited about, primarily because NGfL Cymru is still in its infancy and yet has been able to provide more materials to support the curriculum in Wales than any other online educational provider.'
The materials are sourced in a variety of ways including through LEAs, teachers and partnerships with commercial developers in Wales and beyond.
NGfL Cymru has five field officers who are employed to support teachers in the development of resources and offer guidance in their effective use.
At the moment NGfL Cymru gets around 7000 visitors per day which has more than doubled in the last 18 months.
However, many teachers in Wales have yet to fully appreciate the role that NGfL Cymru can play, or even fully realise its potential to act as a central portal for the sharing of resources and good practice.
Future developments include a series of resources for Spanish, mathematics, Welsh and resources specifically developed to support inclusive education and specialist provision.
The NGfL Cymru approach is one of contribution, collaboration and co-operation with the partnerships being developed to provide an exciting opportunity to share good practice and to ensure that teachers, pupils and learners benefit throughout Wales.

"2004 was an excellent year for SiRF and we made very good progress in Q4 in each of our focus markets. Our SiRFStar III platform is now the technology of choice in the wireless market, which reinforces our technology leadership in each of the markets we serve", said Dr. Michael Canning, president and CEO. "Revenue performance in Q4 was affected by delays in the production release of SiRFStar III software and by a shortfall in IP revenue. Now that SiRFStar III software has been fully released to customers, our design win momentum and other key metrics continue very strong and augur well for the future."
