ALBANY INSPIRATION TEACHER TURNS YOUTHS TOWARD ARTS.(Local)

John Velie was putting the three student actors through their paces this week.

Sitting a few feet in front of them on the stage in the auditorium at Albany High School, Velie jumped from rehearsing the script, to acting exercises, to questioning the students about what they thought the playwright had in mind.

"What are you saying when you say, 'She's dead?'" Velie asked the actors.

"That she's out of it. She's not one of us," one of the students replied.

"Then let's really reject her," Velie said, urging them to show rejection in every move and gesture.
